Ghost

This is the tale of the ghost:

You may think it's false, you may think it's true

But for many people, at least for most,

They decide for themselves, so it's up to you.

One day an old man was fishing on a lake.

He always fished here - every day.

He never caught more than he could take,

But he always fished here - never going away.

*

Nobody knows from where he came,

Nobody knows his name,

Nobody knows from where he got his old, rotten boat,

Or how can it, full of holes, stay afloat.

*

Nobody gave it much thought,

When he suddenly appeared.

Was it last weck or last year? Maybe, maybe not.

And if he finished all day and all night, nobody cared.

*

And on this sunny day, not a cloud in the sky

The burning sun scorching down,

The birds staying in the trees, not daring to fly

And nobody coming out of the houses in town.

*

Still the fisherman fishes on,

Even when all the fish are gone.

Suddenly over the lake - a thick mist,

The fisherman and his boat disappear from sight,

And now the fog is the gist.

Everywhere - dark as night

*

The mist is thicker than ever,

You can't even see your own feet.

Ghostly shapes, falling apart and coming together

In every ghostly, misty street.

*

Everything and everybody is without a sound,

Quiet all around.

All of a sudden, the sound of dripping oars,

Everything freezes in it's tracks, even the world.

*

And the lights go out,

Everybody feels electricity in the air.

Nobody dares to scream or shout

And even though there's nothing to see, they all stare.

*

Then the mist clears,
Displacing our deepest fears.

The fisherman and his boat - not to be seen,

Just an empty lake and a beautiful scene.

*
